FOOD STAMPS

Across New York State, many low-income households sacrifice their food needs to prevent losing their housing or other necessities.

Working individuals and families earning minimum wage struggle to make ends meet, and often have to choose between buying food and paying the utility bills.
The Food Stamp Program at Nachas Health is a Nutrition Outreach and Education Program. One of our goals is to make it easier for households to apply for and receive food stamp benefits. We are here to provide you with assistance tailored to the needs of each specific household. Our goal is to educate the general public about the benefits of the food stamp program to the community at large and to enroll and educate potentially eligible clients.

You may be eligible for Food Stamps if:

  • If you have low or fixed income
  • You have high medical bills, rent expense, housing payment or utility expenses
  • You have few assets; not including your own home
Getting Food Stamps for your children won?t hurt if you are trying to become a citizen, and children that are green card holders and who have lawful permanent residency can qualify for Food Stamps regardless of the parent?s immigration status.

At Nachas Health our knowledgeable staff will assist you in determining your income eligibility to the Food Stamp program. We will help in completing the application, reviewing the documentation requirements as well as schedule an appointment at the Food Stamp office. We will prepare you for the face-to-face interviews. Eligible clients will have to attend a face-to-face interview at the Food Stamp office, while seniors are not required to attend.

We will help you complete the application process.

You may be eligible for expedited Food Stamps if:
  • You have very low income or you are unemployed
  • You have few resources
Come in to Nachas Health and see if you are eligible. Don?t ever assume that you are not. If you have any of the eligibility qualifications listed above or think you do, please contact us.

The recertification or renewal process is as follows:
  • Applicants who have a fixed income such as a set salary or income from Social Security have a 12-month certification period.
  • Elderly or disabled individuals generally have a 24-month certification period.
Households that their income changes or fluctuates have a 6-month certification period.
