SUCCESS STORIES

At Nachas Health, we encourage all members of our community to take full advantage of our many available programs and services. Absolutely nothing speaks of our success better than the many personal stories we can relate. Here are a just few of the success stories that have made it all worthwhile.

Receiving Nachas from Nachas

Mrs. W?s Wish:
Mrs. W., a Holocaust survivor and widow with an only child who was an emotionally disturbed man, was a client who received various services at Nachas Health. For many years, she frequently visited, and we came to see her as a part of the Nachas Health family. One morning, she rolled up her sleeves, and revealed signs of physical abuse that she had suffered at the hands of her son. We were there throughout the one-year process of getting him placed in a facility where he was able to receive the proper care. She thanked us countless times, and said that she could now die in peace knowing that her son was receiving the treatment he sorely needed.

She disclosed that her main concern and heartfelt request to us was that after she died, we would arrange an orthodox funeral. One morning, we received a call from the hospital that Mrs. W. had been in a tragic car accident and had passed away. Nachas Health's staff went into action by contacting the funeral home, and arranging for the actual burial. Finally, we saw to it that ten men were present to say the ritual prayer of ?Kaddish.?

The Three Brothers:

A couple and 2 gentleman arrived one day at Nachas. The youngest of the three gentlemen were inquiring whether any of them were eligible for any reparations.

After speaking with them I realized that they are eligible to receive a pension from the claims conference. As we did the paperwork I asked the oldest of the three when he was born and he replied that it was in Hungary in 1897. The youngest was born in 1914. The amazing part was they were brothers and brother-in-law. The memory of Mr. D. born in 1897 was as clear as though it had all happened yesterday.

Due to their age and our intervention they received the approval and pensions within 6 months.

We Can Work Wonders!

Clients always call for various reasons. We do our utmost to find the right agency and refer them so they can receive the help they need. What follows are some examples of how we worked with some of our clients to get them the help they needed, but often didn?t know existed!

Doctor F?s Child:
Doctor F.?s child was diagnosed with a form of leukemia on the morning of November 20. The deadline for every month?s new enrollment is the twentieth of the month, however the paperwork must be in Albany on the twentieth.  Nachas navigated the paperwork maze with the parents. In a matter of hours, the completed application was on its way to Albany via a car service with the coverage set to begin a mere ten days later. The child was able to begin his life-saving treatments immediately.

Many people are very apprehensive when they come to apply for health insurance. We are able to make everyone feel comfortable enough to call us with even the smallest question, and we are always available to help. One client did not feel comfortable calling her employer in order to make necessary changes on her income letter. We made the call for her and got the correct letter faxed to us within half an hour.

We have located additional funds. One mother came to renew her health insurance coverage after her husband was deceased. She brought in a tax return to prove her income. We needed to verify all information on her tax return. We were able to show her that there were a couple of bank accounts that she did not know existed. She was then able to obtain the money that she so desperately needed.

We Are Here to Listen!

A grandmother came to renew the health insurance for her grandchildren. She had very recently lost her daughter, and the loss was still very fresh at heart. Due to various happenings, she was having a very tough day. By the time she came to our office, she was emotionally drained. When she sat down at the caseworker?s desk, the tears were just streaming down her face. The caseworker allowed her to cry and talk, and hugged her when she finished. The image of the woman?s tears stayed with the caseworker. The caseworker called her a couple of times afterwards. She was so grateful for the care and follow-up Nachas Health gave her.

Many times, we become the ?therapist without training?. We are the perfect stranger, to whom visitors to our office can unload their troubles. Sometimes people can?t want talk to their families, yet they do need to talk to someone. Once they do that, they almost always feel better, and are thankful for the subtle help we provided.

Making Insurance Issues and Application Easier!

Translation and multilingual staff assistance:
Due to our multilingual staff, we are able to communicate with immigrant clients in their own language and educate them on programs that are available to them.

Senior citizens receive correspondence from Europe (i.e., Germany), they are unable to read and understand the foreign languages. We try to help them to the best of our ability.
